UPDATES
22 July 2007 I was back in Crete for 10 days at the beginning of June. Vivien and Chris were having a 2 week break and I have added some photos of the exterior of their house - go to Front of House. They told me they love the house and the village very much. 12 January 2007 Vivien and Chris spent 3 weeks in Crete over the Christmas and New Year and the house is beautiful both inside and out. I will be including some up to date pictures of the exterior of the property very soon. 7 May 2006 I returned from my Easter visit to Crete last Monday, 1 May. Vivien and Chris were also there enjoying their newly renovated house in Tsikalaria! What a transformation! They spent 2 weeks enjoying the Easter celebrations and meeting their neighbours in Tsikalaria, who visited them daily with Easter biscuits, cakes, fruits and many other gifts. They were invited to a neighbours house for the Easter Saturday evening meal which follows the church service and procession at midnight. Spyros and I met up with them for lunch in Chania and they were very happy with the house. There are still some extras to finish such as a pergola placing on the roof terrace of the house and also another coat of paint to the outside. Vivien has decided to have the house white now as she feels it is more in keeping with the other houses surrounding their house. Mind you the 'pink house' as it is referred to by everyone in the village has made quite an impression as Vivien and Chris discovered whenever they were telling anyone about it. I was with them in a restaurant near Vamos when the owner asked us where we were staying. When Vivien told him her and Chris owned a house in Tsikalaria, he said he had family living there and asked was it the 'pink house'. The same thing happened when they were shopping in Chania. It seems almost a shame to paint it white when it is so famous for its current colour pink! 10 February 2006 Spyros has sent me some photos of the house as it looked at the beginning of February. The final coat of plastering on the exterior and interior walls of the house is now completed. Vivien wanted the exterior to match as near as possible the colour of the Church which is situated below their house. I think it looks very nice and when I return to Crete in April I will take some photos of the Church to show on these pages. The interior is taking shape now and I know it is already looking a lot different to this latest batch photos and I will add some more as I receive them from Spyros. 27 January 2006 During my visit to Crete in November/December 05, I took some photographs of the house and the renovations. A lot had been done in the 2 months since my last visit. Vivien and Chris are very pleased with the progress and since my visit, the plastering is now complete and the floors tiled. As soon as I have some photos of how it is now, I will put them on the site. Meanwhile please take a look at the photo's I took during my last visit. All being well, the house should be finished by the end of February or beginning of March. 6 November 2005 Work has now started on this project and I have included images of the plans for the renovation. Our clients Vivien and Chris returned to Crete in October and met with Spyros several times, going over the plans to ensure everyone was happy with them. This is a full renovation project and the property is currently in a messy state, but fortunately Vivien and Chris are the sort of people who can see beyond the mess and have a vision of how their home will look when the work is complete. You have to have this vision, as I did, to believe in what can be achieved. 25 August 2005 Work will start soon on the renovation of a lovely village house in Tsikalaria, in the Malaxa area of Chania near Souda. Our clients bought the house at the end of last year and the planning permission came through at the end of July 05.
